Long Beach is home to the only museum in the western US dedicated exclusively to Latin American art. The Museum of Latin American Art on Alamitos Ave., was founded in 1996 and offers continual and traveling exhibits, workshops, live music in the gallery, special events and a café. The museum is open every day but Monday and admission is $5.for adults.
The East Village Arts District offers a wide range of art studio galleries, café’s, eclectic shops, many coffee shops that serve food and some restaurants. The area is considered the city's arts district, with many local artists living, creating, and presenting their work in the neighborhood at local galleries.
Long Beach Transit has a free Village Tour D'art going through the East Village that stops at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, 1926 Art Deco Breakers Hotel, the Museum of Latin American Art, the Oceanic Art Museum and gallery, several local historical churches, the City Place, and Long Beach Promenade shopping centers. The International City Theatre in the Performing Arts Center puts on plays each season and the Long Beach Opera has been performing for over 27 years, bringing new and rare opera to the West Coast.
